Grant while on Erasmus?

    Hey guys,

I'm a second year student and I'm strongly considering going on Erasmus next year to Paris. The only niggling doubt I have in my mind is based on lack of finances. Living in Paris is extremely expensive needless to say, and I really wouldn't be able to think about affording it if I can't get my grant while there. When filling in my renewal form this year there was a question about studying abroad and it asked if it was compulsory or optional. I'm kind of assuming then that it means they can deny you the grant if you've opted to go abroad?

Any information on this would be so helpful. :)

If the erasmus year is a necessary part of your course, your grant will be given to you.

What if it's not a necessary part of the course though? Can they decide not to give it on that basis?

If you will be on erasmus studying, then you should be entitled to the same grants as if you were at home. Some colleges can afford to throw some extra money at you for rent, but dont hold your breath.

By nessecary we mean, it's actually part of college, and not just jetting off to the sun to not do academic work.

Thanks so much! The exchange is arranged by the law school in TCD and would count as 50% of my degree so hopefully that will be enough to prove that it's necessary, as I'd be working extremely hard when over there.

Thanks again, now to just get researching and preparing for the year! :) Hopefully it all works out.
