My brothers 97 Megane is getting a heavy coating of carbon on the plugs.
Seems to be driving ok, most of the time. I believe the TDC sensor is a common fault but seems to affect starting rather than normal running.
Bro complains of it running on 3 cyls sometimes, and when pulls the plugs they are fouled. He changed from some spurios make of plugs to bosch and it's same problem.

Where to start? Lambda / temperature sensor something else?

Hmm - coilpack breaking down? I had that sort of bother a few months back with a Xsara and an S-Type Jag, both '99. I think the ridiculous rain pops them sometimes.

He replaced both coilpacks in the past 12 months, one for sure was a faulty pack as the fault followed the pack when we swopped them.

Diagnostic would show the failing sensor or coilpack if he was unlucky enough to have another go?

Diag/fault-code cache should reveal this sort of thing, yes.

according to diagnostic it's a faulty Lambda. Dealer wants e150, any cheaper places?

What fault is it showing exactly, just because there is a misreading lambda on the diagnostic doesn't always mean the lambda is the problem.

+1 to this. Find out the exact OBD code #.

Vacuum leak or a MAF issue can cause the ECU to overcompensate and richen things up so bad that you end up fouling plugs.
