For a man that goes on and on about wasting Public Money...........could he have not said if we requested a recount we may have finished in 2nd. place. All he will do now, by requesting this recount is confirm that the candidate representing his party will be confirmed as coming third. Joe this is not a golf tournament, there is no difference in the prize money for second and third place. What a waste of energy and public money, you have given your opponents a little stick to beat you with when you cry wolf again.:)

    http://www.rte.ie/news/vote2011/dublin-west.html

It's 18 votes out of 17,852 and there were 689 votes marked as spoilt
the difference is 2.6% of the number of votes spoilt and it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that a different returning office might have made different decisions about some of those spoilt votes.

She could still win if she gets 3200 more transfers from FF than Lab do out of the 9800 votes on offer. She'd have to get 2:1 transfers. Unlikely but not implausible by any means especially if the FF vote was an anti-government vote. (the tallymen would have a much better idea of the ratio )

And visa versa for the comparatively inexperienced 25 year old FFer, - but 2:1 transfers extremely unlikely because they would have to move from left.

1825 During the analysis of disputed votes that have just finished, it emerged that 16 ballot papers were present in Wicklow constituency ballot boxes that were perforated with a stamp from Dublin Central.

14 of these ballot papers listed Gallagher as the number one candidate. These votes are currently not being counted and have been set aside until a satisfactory explanation can be found.

The percentage of spoilt votes has more then doubled compared to the GE.
Had a check of a few other constituencies and especially Dublin West and spoilt votes were almost always under one percent.
    Now more then double

What are the good people of Dublin West doing when they vote?

Many of the spoilt votes may have been blank, because people only voted in the other ballots.

Recount over , they both have 9873 votes so pretty close ;)

If she got one more vote then FF may have asked for their recount.

But she got eliminated anyway and her transfers went 9:2 to Labour.

FF will be milking this until and during the next election :(
though probably not as bad as England going on about the world cup they won nearly 50 years ago.

Gloating for losing? They finished second and so finished with nothing

Or do you mean this is encouragement for the future
The candidate was very young so may run again, looks good for a Dáil seat next GE
