What do folks think of these?

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Peugeot/407/1.6-ST-S/201111201606567/advert?channel=CARS

What real world mpg do they give?

Are the 5 or 6 speed?

I may call around and have a look at this one tomorrow while considering my options regarding my Passat

Any car I have ever seen on the roads around Nenagh from that garage never travel over 60Kph for some reason.

According to row they seem to be decent enough in comparison to the passat..

Add is 58 days old, mightn't still be there.

Don't really like the 407, not as good as the 406, they don't look like a car from the segment they're in. Dropping €8k ish on one would be a sin really I think.

    Extremely comfy car.

    55-60 mpg very possible.

Seemed to be plagued with minor issues which are infuriating to put right.

    Ball joints, alarms, DPFs, etc.

That one seems very expensive. 5-6 would be enough for it.

You know what, I think your dead right after thinking about it.

Just asked myself why I'd want it after posting it and realised I don't have the time to look for a car that I'd like.

I think I'll just go ahead and repair the Passat (at least i know it's all done properly) and finally sort out the biggest problem it's had since I got it.........105bhp ;)

    A moment of weakness

What's the diagnosis on the Passat John?

All new glow plugs (seperate issue), the exhaust gasket being gone has upset all the air/fuel mix and has messed up the sensors measurements hence it went in to safe mode a few times.

That's the biggest issue, there is also a split pipe to the turbo.

One last issue is a mis-firing cylinder. Mechanic said something about using some cleaning fluid that costs about €60 to clean the system. If that doesn't work then we'll have to go at the injectors to sort it.

The costs add up quickly

Having said that, it will all be done, I'll know it's done and I'll be left with no issues and hopefully a good few miles until the t/belt is due. And I'll have some nice receipts to show the next owner when I go to sell it

Could have been worse though, you knew about the exhaust gasket anyway. Fingers crossed she'll be sorted for you.

What's the petrol 407 like? Does it have the same issues that the diesel has in terms of needing to be religiously serviced and the delicate parts that need regular replacement?

On the 407 1.6 hdi the mpgs work out between 48-52 mpg...on long journeys
they should get up to around 55mpg...they 1.8 petrols tend to work out around 35-38 mpgs...there are two 1.8 petrol engines one is more powerful and easier on fuel than the other.
Other than low mpgs the petrols are'nt bad...:)...you should be able to pick up a nice clean petrol 407 for the price of a dual mass flywheel..:D

@johnos1984..that 407 is very clean but abit on the expensive side....I had the option of buying a 06 407 1.6 hdi (80k mls) a few weeks ago for 3.5k but
it was gone when i rang the owner..
    What year is your passat..?

    2006

A small bit of research courtesy of my Mammy has put me off :o

Nothing wrong with the car or garage, I just won't be dealing with them

You can never beat Mammys advice..:)

How is the dmf on your passat...Do you get a slight hesitation/engine running lumpy when at idle..?

No hesitation but a lumpy idle at times.

I assumed it was down to a misfire of some description which the mechanic mentioned.

Pulls fine, bites good and has no slipping
