Yeah, I can see applications like the DVD player on the PC and watch DVD videos from the DVD software on my VIAO laptop.
    but
when I try and play a game, Wings of Prey,
the TV screen goes blank and I get a message that this is not possible.

Is this imposed by Windows 7, because of Direct X limitations

    or

Deliberately put there by makers of Wings Of Prey?

What does the message state? No signal? Is it a Blu Ray? It may be to do with HDCP if its a Blu Ray

Wings of Prey has multi monitor support. What graphics are in your VAIO? It may be a driver problem.

Another thing about error messages is that if you post them verbatim into Google it can really help you to find a solution for your problem.

I managed to successfully install IL2 1946 on Win 7 64 bit at the weekend.
So, I then hooked the VIAO up to the Telly once again.
This time, the game above ran flawlessly.
The game runs faster than it did on Windows XP Pro on.
I think my Wings Of Prey is going to have a recluse end somewhere under a pile of books or whatever.
Anyway to my mind Wings Of Prey is too linear in comparison to IL2 1946, so there.

The games are booting into a resolution that the TV is not supporting. Odds are it only does 720p, boot into the games on the laptop and set the res to 1280*720. Exit, connect to the TV and start it up again.
