Hi guys, I'm currently in my final year in NUI Maynooth doing law and history, law being my major history my minor and I really need to get a 2.1 at least I was just wondering how much of my mark will depend on my history result as I'm trying to figure out how I should divide my study? Are they equally important cause then Im wondering what's the point in the major minor scheme.... BTW the office in the college was closed early today cause of the bank holiday so I couldnt ask them. Cheers in advance for any help!

It's a 2:1 ratio as far as I know, 40 credits of your major and 20 credits of your minor.

Hey guys, I'm also doing a major/minor.. Have a similar question! My 2nd year results say that i got a pass in my minor subject, even though i got a 2.1.. so does this mean that i only have to pass my minor subject? i.e. if i got a 2.1 in the major, and a 2.2 in the minor i'd get a 2.1 overall??
Would be great if any of you could clear this up for me? Thanks!

I assume it's a weighted average. So your major work is worth 2/3 of your marks and your minor 1/3. Each will be scored out of 1000, multiply your major by two, add it to the minor mark and divide by 3 for your average.

Just wondering how you managed to make your law degree a major/minor?

Just wondering how you managed to make your law degree a major/minor?

The courses they have in NUIM at the moment are Law and Arts (which I'm doing, my arts subject being history) and Law and Business, so you get basically major in Law and minor in business or your chosen arts subject. Think there's a new pure law course being introduced next year but it wasnt an option when I was doing my CAO....

Editing because I came off as a complete bitch (I need to stop doing that)

I am also a third year law and history student. You must have gotten confused (possibly due to the different numbers if modules per subject as suggested by Your Text Here below). The degree is a double honours unless you specifically change it. I only know one person who has managed to do that.

You might want to have a look at your registration. You should have 30 credits for each subject

Could some confusion be being caused because history modules are worth more credits than law ones? i.e. you only do two history modules each semester because they are both 7.5 credits (usually) whereas I assume law modules are 5 credits hence more modules in the year?

Anyone I ever heard of doing law did it as a double honours....
