UFO Shaped Cloud over Portlaoise - October 28th 2011

    Just snapped this "Spaceship" shaped cloud over Portlaoise!
    Unusual that it formed under high cloud.

    Spotted similar shaped clouds around Galway today, very slow moving too.

    They're altostratus lenticularis and generally remain in the same spot as they're formed by the rising of a stable airflow over high terrain. There just happened to be a layer of cirrus above but that has no effect on the formation of these clouds.
