    I am in the process of getting 3 broadband with the National Broadband Scheme. But i am having a problem with 3 and i am finding it hard to get the information i need.

    There is no Broadband in my area full stop :( (south Roscommon) but three have said that with the aid of a repeater box we will have Broadband.

    Has anyone had any experience of this or has anyone here had one installed recently, i would like some advise on what modem to get. Ideally i would like to get the Wifi one E586 E585 but have been told that these dont work with the repeater box and have now recieved the E122 which looks like a USB stick i havent used it yet as i am wating for the repeater box to come in the post.

    Any advise or past experience of this would be a great help. Surely in this day and age we should have access to Broadband :mad:

    @OP - Perhaps have a look here...

    Maybe I'm the exception to the rule, but I'm on the NBS via 3 and I'm quite happy with it. Speeds of around 4meg compared to about 250k on a good day via landline.

    Long may it last...

    I live out in Keenagh close to Longford town and we are stuck with the National Broadband Scheme till Eircom upgrade us (or hell freezes over.. which ever comes first.)

    We have had it a year now and it's very hit and miss. Started out with an indoor repeater box which had a small aerial you stick to the window. Worked OK (0.7Mbit down/0.1Mbit up) most of the time. Then a representative from Three did the rounds and suddenly it wouldn't connect half the time. When it did you got 2-300ms ping times and 0.1Mbit down 0.05Mbit up. Turns out most of our estate got the same repeater and the mast just couldn't take it.

    I rang tech support in India and got the usual plug it in and out, restart Windows etc crap. Pure and simple, there just wasn't enough bandwidth for us all. After more calls, they tried to force us onto their satellite broadband. I got a random phone call at 9am one morning saying someone would be out to install the dish in the next few hours.

    Long arguments with tech support later, I got them to give us an external antenna based repeater. This is what we are using at the moment. It has its good and bad times but works reasonably well. During the day up to 4 or 5 o'clock its quite fast. 2Mbit down 1Mbit. From then onward it goes at a snails pace. 0.3Mbit down 0.1Mbit up but it picks up after 11pm.

    There is a sea of twoway satellite broandband dishes in our estate. Helped to cut down congestion on the mast but I feel sorry for those people stuck with insane download/upload limits.

    Long story short: They are useless in terms of tech support, their minimum speeds in the contract are a fantasy and if your neighbor gets it as well its unusable.
