    Hi all,

Have a Grant 140/110 boiler installed, about six - seven years old and this morning have discovered water around boiler. Had a look in it and discovered a leak in base of boiler. Im waiting for local service guy to have a look at it to see what he thinks but he does not sound optamistic if its a leak. From people experience here can this be fixed up or am I looking at a new boiler.

If it's the boiler itself is leaking I'd say its caput, it may have been caused by lack of inhibitor, a leak elsewhere or if it's in a wet location .

Can it not be welded? Have the same problem myself with a 4 year old warmflow.

Surely boilers are ment to last longer than this. I presume warrenty is as well on mine anyway. Would 4 year be still under warrenty????

Have to have had it serviced annually by an approved technician.

It;s important to find out why the boiler has leaked, from inside or outside and take it from there

It may be just a leak in the pipework fittings inside the boiler and something simple to repair:) It may not be the heat exchanger itself.

The plumber will know, get him to show you where it's leaking. Show us a photo.

An approved technician could not possibly see into the jacket of your boiler to see this, I wouldn't put the blame on his shoulders

Sounds like sludge build up, or possibly a cracked weld,

Ok guys. Plumber and service guy had a look at it and got onto manufacturers. Its seems that weld has cracked on base of boiler.
Manufacturers have asked to get it back and do an inspection and
    hopefully come to some arrangement.

Hopefully it's not caused by sludge buildup in the base of the boiler as this may not be covered under warranty (caused by non-flushing when installing and possibly no inhibitor added)

But is it's a failed weld, they would normally cover the shell, and replace
