Vietnam and Thailand in December

So holidays booked from work. Plan is to spend three and a half weeks in Vietnam and Thailand. Anyone any advice for this trip, plan is to fly to Bangkok - couple of days there then fly to Hanoi. Work my way down from Hanoi to Saigon stopping in Hue, Danang etc. Fly from Saigon to Ko Samui for a couple of days sunbathing…

plan is to fly to Bangkok - couple of days there then fly to Hanoi. Work my way down from Hanoi to Saigon stopping in Hue, Danang etc. Fly from Saigon to Ko Samui for a couple of days sunbathing then Ko Pha Ngang for the Full Moon Party on New Years Eve and back to Bangkok for a couple of days. Its this part that im unsure of, at this point ill be on my own and not sure if Bangkok is the city for this so not sure what to do. I have the first week off in January and dont intend coming home until its time to go back to work.
