If I buy a new car before I sell my old one. What should I do about insurance?

    Hi there,

It is likely that I will buy a new car before I have sold my old one. If I do this, what should I do as regards insurance? Presumably I would need to transfer my policy over to the new car but any thoughts on what should I do about the old one for people test driving, etc.?

Make sure they have insurance to test it... they wouldn't have been covered under your policy anyway unless you have an open plan!

Sure. What about the fact that the old car will not have a policy associated with it? Would that be a problem if I was stopped or whatever?

The best thing to do would be to temporarily transfer the insurance back to the old car for the duration of the test drive. However some insurance companies may charge you for this and it may become both expensive and tedious if time wasters decide not to show up for a test drive.
