Sky box recording, but not switching on

    Sky box (Sky+ HD) was working fine last night when I was going to bed. Just tried to switch it on (with both the remote and the button on the box itself) and it's not budging. The red "record" button is showing, and the orange standby light is on.

    Any theories what I should do before calling Sky?

    This has happened on occasions with my sky+ box. It just seemed to freeze. I disconnected it from the power, left it for a few minutes & then turned on the power again. Once I could hear that the hard drive had stopped spinning I turned it on with the remote & it worked again. Worth a try.

    Well, the red light has gone off, but it still wouldn't turn on - maybe I didn't leave it "off" long enough. Have unplugged again and will leave it unplugged for a while longer.

    Left it over half an hour, tried again, no luck. Rang the help line, they gave me the number of a guy to ring. As I was talking to him, it suddenly started working again.

    He just rang me back to say they've determined I needed a software update, and gave me instructions on what to do, so that's in progress at the moment at least.

    Message onscreen now is
    "Updating system software
    Do not disconnect from mains supply or satellite dish

    This may take up to 10 minutes"

    Hoping this won't delete things I have recorded :S
