HDR for sat/saorview

    Hi

Excuse me in advance if the answer is already in these threads but the situation regarding Saorview is a bit fuzzy for me as I live outside Ireland. Correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it it is the equivalent of Freeview in the UK rather than a satellite based system.

I am looking to see if there is a combination HD STB currently available in Ireland which would allow my Dad to pick up and record the Irish channels as well as FTA satellite ones.

Recently his old VCR packed up and we thought as Xmas is coming up if such a beast existed it would be a good gift option and I've been nominated to do the research.

I've got a HDR Foxsat which works great with Freesat/FTA here in London and was wondering if something similar that also picked up the digital RTE channels existed in Ireland?

My Dad lives near Enniscorthy if that makes a difference to coverage and any other options.

    Many thanks
    Del

You need this machine, from this dealer. Or some dealer anyway, there are others.

Do you need any subscription or just the box, I see Lidl is selling something like that, so would I just need to buy the box and nothing else?

Excollier linked to a "combo" box. Terrestrial (your RTEs and TV3 etc) and satellite (your BBCs and the like ) - thats the combo function. You will need an antenna for the terrestrial part and a dish for the UK part. After your initial outlay, thats it.

Many thanks for the link. Looks good. A couple of queries if you could help a bit more:

    1. My Dad has a satellite dish but only an internal aerial which picks up the analogue Irish channels. Would the digital Irish channels be picked by that or would it need to be an outdoor one?
    2. Would any external hard drive work or does it need a certain specification?

    Hi.
I am also interested in the combo box suggested. I have a sky subscription in one room...which I want to keep....so I have a dish already.

I recently bought a new sony tv with saor view.

Since I already have a dish...can it be used to receive sky tv and free to air satellite?

So do I just need a saor view aerial and the combo box to set up free to air in the 2nd room?

Thanks in advance...Im not well up on these matters!
