    Hi all,

I've lost my job as of last week and am looking to take up cycling to keep my mind ticking over. The thing is, I know nothing about bikes really.

Have been looking for a good road bike but not sure if any of these are use

Could someone please shed some light on theses bikes:

    1
    2
    3

My budget for a bike is ~€500 excluding extras like helmet, lock, clothing etc

    Many thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about losing your job. Hope you manage to find a new one soon.

What height are you as I see you looking at Medium sized bikes?

The GT (No. 1) looks the best to me. The Scott (no. 3) looks old and well worn. The Teman (No. 2) look like a clean bike the but the description looks odd (21 speed would mean a 7 speed rear cassette which I havent seen in a very very long time and down tube gear shifters).

I'd go view the GT and keep looking.

Sorry about the job man. I cant tell you which bike is better (I'm a newb) but if you're thinking about the GT you might as well buy it NEW and CHEAPER here: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gt-gtr-series-5-2011/

I'm new to road bikes myself, but the adverts section here seems provide some interesting options, e.g.

    Planet X Kaffenback Large €450
    Trek 1000 SL €375

Picked up a 2nd hand road bike myself a couple of weeks back, and I;m delighted with it.

Sorry to hear about your circumstances OP.

There's the Carrera Vanquish for €585. According to this post Halfords have knocked 20% off Carrera bikes for this weekend which would bring it down to €468. If you flash an AXA insurance policy you could get a further 15% off which would bring it further down to €398.

The above linked Carrera is an older model so your local store may not have it left in your/any size. The newer model is more expensive and lower spec (I think).

Thanks for the response. I'm 6'0 so was looking at 56cm frames. According the internet that'd suit me best :)
