How come the Ps2 never updated its firmware?

    Just a random thought I had :)
Loaded up my ps2 a few weeks ago and noticed it was running on 1.1 firmware. Since the ps2 was cracked early on in its life. How come Sony never issued forced FW updates with new games?

A device has to be built with updateable firmware as part of the design, otherwise it likely requires special repair/service equiptment to do it. I would imagine this is probably the case with PS2, as I've never seen a game having the ability to update the PS2 firmware...

Far better machine for it too.
