There is an interesting thread currently on MHF concerning the 'parking brake' on Ducato Maxi chassis.
Apparently what we commonly refer to as a 'handbrake' and which we may use at times to apply braking to a vehicle while in motion is not what is fitted to Ducato Maxi's (the ones with disc brakes on the rear).
The Maxi's 'handbrake' is in fact a 'parking' brake and is designed to be used ONLY when the vehicle has come to a halt, otherwise it can be suffer damage.

So, when such a vehicle is being roadworthiness tested, pulling on the 'parking' brake while the wheel is in motion could cause damage to the internals of the brake.

FWIW, if the above is correct, and it's up to individuals to check this with a FIAT technician, the vehicle tester should be made aware of the 'possibilities' and a written acceptance of liability for any damaged caused should be sought if a rolling road test is to be performed on the 'parking' brake.

See THIS LINK to the discussion thread on the issue on the MHF website.

Yup , the "handbrake" design is a floating shoe one , and provides fup all stopping power when the vehicle is in motion . Has been that way since the 2003 facelift model.
