Will saorview work with an indoor ariel?

The indoor aerial will work if there is a strong enough signal available.

This will depend on your location wrt transmitters & obstructions, and on the ability of signal to penetrate your building (locating the aerial near a window might help in this respect).

    TV3?

If you're not receiving TV3 you are probably receiving the above analogue channels from one of the smaller transmitter sites.

Not all of those sites have been upgraded for Saorview DTT and won't be.

Can you identify the UHF channel numbers for the channels you receive and approx where are you located?

Use the Saorview coverage checker to locate you're nearest DTT transmitter.

How far away and how good the Saorview signal is from that transmitter will determine wheather the indoor aerial will work with Saorview.

Not TV 3. Where do i get the UHF channel numbers for the channels for the channels I get
Use the Saorview coverage checker to locate you're nearest DTT transmitter.
map says there is one near my town.

I very rarely watch TV and thats why I only have an indoor ariel with rte 1/2 and TG4. I can get TV3 on the computer at magnet TV.

Depends on your tv, maybe in the tuning menu or 'info'.
map says there is one near my town.

    Which town would this be?

It is if you want to get more out of this thread, but you're probably happy enough with the info gained via the coverage map.

It would'nt be asked if it was not relevant. You don't have to name the town, just the general area, ie North xxx, South xxx etc. It will give those who wish to help you the info to give you the correct info re signal, setup, TV mast etc.

The analogue channel numbers may identify a number of transmitters but the approx location together with the channel nos. will identify the specific transmitter. When we know the transmitter we'll know the aerial and polarisation required.

Knowing the nearest DTT transmitter we can tell you if your current aerial will work or whether a new one is required or if it needs to be realigned to a different transmitter. This may also indicate, depending how far you're from that transmitter if an indoor aerial might work

After all that we should be able to identify your bank account and credit card details ;)

I contacted a local tv installer today and asked him what this saorview thing was and what would I need.
I said I live in an apartment block and we cannot pick up sky because our apartment is too low, We would have to mount a dish on the wall of the house of the people living above us. There is a cluster of coax cables on the gable end of the apartment that go back to each apartment's hot press. There are a further four coax cables which go back to each bedroom and the living room.

The answer I got was that saorview was the Irish station and I needed a sky dish and subscription. They would send an installer out at the weekend to assess the place and do an installation. They wanted to know how many rooms I wanted set up and my billing details for the sky cards.

So now I'm even more confused. Now I do know that my TV is not digital anything. I was first in the queue when the lcd screens came out. I am using a DVI cable to connect a Home theatre pc to my tv. All my content is on my TV and I'm quite happy with my limited viewing. However, I do have a USB tv tuner in a drawer somewhere. Would this do the job for saorview? or do I actually need to subscribe to sky sports 7?

The first question is what service do you want, the Sky subscription service via a satellite dish or the subscription-free 8 channel Saorview digital terrestrial TV service via an aerial?

For Sky the installer will supply the Sky box and satellite dish. For Saorview you will require an aerial and Saorview approved TV or STB.

What channels do you currently receive and do you use a set-top aerial or is the TV connected to the apartment block's cable TV system? If you're already using an indoor aerial you may be able to receive the Saorview DTT channels with a suitable TV or set-top box.
