my mitsubishi olt engine management light

    can someone please help me iv a 98 mitsubihshi colt.the engine management light has recently started popping up.It mostly pops up when i break aswell. my uncle whos not a mechanic but very handy with cars had a look under the bonnet yday and said everything looked good. he said i could just need new break pads.
    can someone please give me advice.would the engine managemnt light usually pop up when you need new break pads oherwise can someone advise me of the problem..dnt want to go to a garage and get screwed over
    any replys would be graetly appriciated :)

    stay away from your uncle, he's not handy with cars. If it's an engine light it's not brake pads. You need to go to a garage. Common problems include o2 sensors and distributors. I don't like going to the dentist incase I get "screwed over", but I know nothing about teeth.:)
