Abandoning the teacher?

I have an absolutely awful teacher, pure lazy and unfortunately since first year he regards me as one of his golden boys. He "teaches" me history, geography and irish, 3 subjects i find ok. I know I have the potential to get a's in these subjects, but he's holding the class back, especially in Irish. He gives us endless sheets of his own vocab which are mistake-ridden and which I'll never use practically. I'm just wondering, would I be allowed to leave his class and learn by myself? The history and geography course are practically all in the book and I know if I did the Irish paper in the morning I would walk away with a comfortable B. My fear is that I'll eventually end up with a D or something :( I don't mean to be all up in myself, and please don't say the Junior Cert counts for nothing, I know it doesn't but I still want to do well. Would it be allowed of me to go teach myself, or do the school have some legal obligation to provide a teacher? Thanks

I don't see how your grade could get worse than what you think you would get now:confused:. Anyway when I was doing the JC I had an awful awful awful science teacher, 21 of 24 students failed the mocks and I had the best mark at 54. So I got a D. I was pretty pissed off but rather than make a big fuss about it I simply stopped doing what that teacher wanted, stopped listening, stopped all of that and just read the book myself in class, ended up getting an A and came out thinking science was the easiest of subjects. Extreme I know.

I'd love to be able to do that, but then I'd fail HIS tests. And there's always that little bit inside of me that would die when I see a low-scoring report card go home. This just happened in history, I got 75% which he was "EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED" with. He just shouts at everyone and roars what he thinks of them :(

EDIT: I mean I know I have the potential, they're all quite straight forward subjects for me. I know with him though I'd be lucky to get 1 A, and I think the rest of my subjects would suffer.

Try to move class. Out of my class of 30 in Honours Maths for the leaving 25 people moved class. The last 5 werent allowed leave so 3 dropped down to pass and the other 2 got 6 hours of Maths grinds a week.

I think its a disgrace that you cant get rid of the bad teachers in this country. They hold everyone back and think about the amount of kids every year whos lives they affect for the worse.

When I was doing my JC(I'm in 6th yr now) I had a TERRIBLE teacher for History.I contemplated switching classes but I decided to stay.
Anyway he never gave us notes,hw or anything all he did was talk about anything and everything EXCEPT history! We never even did any Irish history!
But I bought the history revise wise and learned the course myself in 3rd year and managed to get an A.
You're obviously pretty confident about your abilities(which is great) so you could just stay in the class, the only problem is that you have him for 3 classes :S I'd say stay because it seems like you're good at the subjects and if you work yourself you'll get the A's!
Maybe get a revise wise, they're so handy and shorten everything,it got me an A!!
    Good Luck!:)

Thanks lads :) Should I ignore him and flunk all his tests to make a good comeback for the real Junior Cert? There's just that little bit of me that really wants to have a good, continuous stream of grades
Also moving class isn't really possible, my base class is 3A3 and we have History, Geography, Science and Religion together. Unless I were allowed move to one of the other classes then that wouldn't be possible.
I also find myself like really angry with yer man, like anger inside of me. Yiikes! :-D
