New zips into older boots, anyone?

My Daytona gore-tex road boots were new in 2006, and have been with me for about 50,000 miles. The zips are now shot, and they leak badly.

Has anyone any experience of rezipping boots? Did it work? Did you find a specialist cobbler, or the guy down the road?

Has anyone anything better to offer than the usual hiking boots type waterproofing on the leather (paraffin wax) ?

They cost €250, so I'm slow to throw them out.

As usual, all advice or comment welcome.

I'd say forget it, that sort of boot is pretty much designed to wear out everywhere at the same time. That's been my experiences with several pairs of Alpinestars, Daineses, etc. they're not bad boots at all, very good in fact but not designed to last a lifetime. 4-5 years of daily use and then bin them. New zips probably won't fix the leaks and your soles are probably on the point of wearing right through...

Traditional boots like Altbergs were designed to last many years and to be repairable, anyone I know who has them swears by them. I'm happy to buy the more modern boots and replace them entirely every 5 years.

    Life ain't always empty.

Mother has an ancient Singer sewing machine and she can work wonders with it. Ever down this way she can try. Other than that I gots a pair off boots here that anyone can have. Size 11. Wore em for a few months in fairness. They're in great condition. Free to good home. Won't have license back until next year and haven't worn em in almost 2 years.
Collection only cos I'm to lazy to go to post office.

Seany, are you not entitled to apply to get your licence back after a year seeing as you got banned for more than 2 years?
