I've formatted my computer and I've re-installed WinXP and I cannot activate, tried over the internet and ringing the number?

Let me guess, when they pulled support they stopped allowing people to activate this version of windows? :(

I think they are supporting XP until 2015.

Retail version should be ok, I done one last week.
OEM may be a problem if you have done a major hardware upgrade.

You may have to reinstall it again, just in case.......

Its an OEM version, Media Centre Edition 2006, SP2 integrated to be specific, no major/any hardware changes.

Some OEM's don't need activation, is it a Brand name machine?

Download that app and see if it allows you to activate, it is called KeyUpdateTool_enu.exe from Microsoft.

Tried ringing there, instead of the nothing I was getting, vodafone reacts with a message 'cannot dial this number from mobiles

Tried the house phone, it got through to the activation service

Gave the online activation one more shot before using the telephone service, it activates and I had changed nothing since the last few attempts

Thanks for you help and sorry for wasting yer time. :o
