The Micheal D Higgins image problem

First off I voted for Gallagher. I was going to vote for Higgins initially as I thought the wind was blowing that way with most of the electorate and he seemed the best candidate of a very bad bunch.

However, and I know this might be crude, I think MDH has a serious physical image problem that actually does make alot of the electorate wary and prepared for the inevitable hobbit leprechaun persona jokes that will emerge internationally if he wins.

I understand and accept the view we should never judge on appearance. Sadly that is not the way the world works. He is small, old and looking delicate to cut a long story short. It's an image of Ireland I had hoped we moved away from with Paddy Hillary - the retirement home.

Would you like a brown envelope with that?

At least you got that photograph for free. Some of us had to fork out €5,000 for a photograph :(

    Haha, love the pic.

I haven't voted yet. I was set on Gallagher but after his poor performance on the frontline I've had doubts, and am thinking of Micheal D. Still undecided!

    Here's a novel idea.
Try voting for someone based on their good character and achievements
rather than which way the wind is blowing or their physical appearance.

Maybe it's not the way the world works for you? I'd rather vote on character and history than on how cute bald dudes are.

I think you have a bad grasp of history

Hillary was well thought of internationally.

He was 53, yes, 53, when elected President, thus 67 when finished his second term

McAleese was 46 when elected, just 7 years younger than Hillary and is currently 60

The X-factor generation vote based on how cute people are, remember ?

So Mr "I'm a z-lister from so-called 'reality' TV" Gallagher is going to be judged based on different criteria to what real people use.

Yes. Because age and appearance are more important than intellect....

I am of the opinion that you can look dog ugly and wear a bin bag if you have a brain and intelligence I admire and respect.
Dressing in a flash suit and looking good just won't be enough to carry you if that's all you've got going on.

What if you were blind, what would you base your vote on then?

Anyway, the xfactor isn't too far away, something for you to look forward to.

This is probably a good (albeit laughable) insight into the mind of the average Sean Gallagher voter. Given that his candidacy is completely substance-free, it's quite apt that people's reasons for voting for him are equally vacuous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭leggit

We all know that Gallagher will still get a good amount of votes because most people don't bother with researching the candidates and will just vote for "the guy off the telly".

Don't get me started on the people that are voting for Dana "for the laugh", bunch of morons.

Not that the president really does anything but lets at least learn a lesson from having a corrupt, dishonest government for the last 10+years and not make a corrupt, dishonest businessman president!

I am intent on changing my citizenship if my fellow countrymen and women vote in Gallagher. It no longer surprises me that we were occupied for 800 years. We are a vassal people with some notable exceptions, several of whom we killed ourselves.

I know someone who voted for SG. (No, it wasn't me.)

Asked them why. Apparently he's the most dynamic candidate??? Are the electorate masochists?

Stupid reason to vote for someone op, you shouldnt have voted at all. Gallagher has been exposed for what he is this week and he cant even come up with some good excuses, basically waffling, accusing and avoiding instead.

Michael D. has a long record in politics, has done alot for Arts and and his constituency, knows politics and the constitution, is a cultured and down to earth man who deserves it far more than any of the other candidates

Voting for someone or not voting for someone based on how they look is a little silly now really well unless of course its a beauty contest.

This is the presidential election and I for one would much rather see someone like Michael D as President ahead of Gallagher. Mainly due to the fact that Michael D has given his whole life to politics is far better suited to the position and isnt after it solely for the status and an ego boost as Gallagher is.

I think Michael D has earned the right to be President more than anyone else in the race.

And I can only imagine what else Gallagher has lied about too.

I think Higgins looks like he belongs in the Klopek family from the 'Burbs.
