Well I got my road bike for commuting and starting to enjoy it more and more. Im more of an MTB'er so use my SPD shoes on the roadie.

Today Im wondering if its worth investing in SPD SL shoes and pedals to get a bit more out of the road bike. Each spin I'm getting a bit faster and am thinking the SL's might give a bit more performance.

    Any opinions ?

Stick with what your comfortable with. I doubt you will notice any major Difference.

The cleats are different and are arkward to walk on. If you've a bit of walking as part of your daily commute, SPD are probably better.

I have a few bikes and had spd's on all except the road bike. I changed that over to spd's as I like the idea of jumping on any of my bikes with any pair of shoes I'm wearing. I also like the fact that you can walk in spd's.

In my experience of mid-rage Specialized MTB shoes compared to high end Specialized road shoes, the road shoes give a much, much better feeling of connectedness and power transfer, particularly in the upstroke - the MTB shoes feel "soggy" by comparison.

The pedals used are Speedplay Frogs and Zeros, which offer the same feel in terms of free float.

So either road shoes are better or expensive shoes are better.

I need some expensive MTB shoes.
