LCD Monitor crapped out on me in the last few days.

Powers up, but nothing on the display.

Is there anywhere in or around the city center that might be able to take a look at it for me?

    Thanks

Can you see a display if you hold a light up to the screen? Coulve be the inverter or backlight has gone. Is it a Samsung Syncmaster by any chance? With some of those models there is a known problem of bad capacitors used (I have one :() mines a 223bw btw.
The caps can be relaced apparently by some one who is good at soldering for a couple of quid. I just got a new screen as I needed one that worked urgently. I'd say most repair shops will just advise you buy a new screen though, you can pick up LCD screens for very little these days...

Screen is pitch black with a strong light on it.

It's a secondary display and the video card is picking it up, and assuming i have a fully functioning dual monitor display.

And it is indeed a Syncmaster. A940BW.

It's intermittent..in that sometimes the display will kick in after a while, so i suspect it might be loose connection.

Definitely not the video card or DVI cables anyway.

Have a look at this topic. your prob is the exact same as I had, the intermittent display, it would sometimes take 4 or 5 goes to get the thing on
