Moving to Cork, advice please!

Hopefully I'll be starting a new job around Little Island soon:). Myself and my partner don't know Cork city at all and we're wondering are there any places to avoid in terms of accommodation. Also any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks:D

Glanmire is a nice area. Very close to Little Island. Near enough to the city and Mahon Point (shopping centre & retail park) is about 10-15 mins away.

The (satellite) village of Carrigtwohill or the town of Midleton (both east of Little Island) should be easy to commute from ....
