Last week i was offered a job in a company, for 32k, which i accepted, they said theyd wait until my first day on the job before theyd gimme the contract (8months). A couple of days later, a different company offered me a job. 34k 14 month contract, which I also accepted, should have conttract on friday!

how should i tell the first company "thanks, but no thanks"?

I presume but refusing it now i have ruined any future prospects of working for the company!!

its a delightful position to be in!:D:cool:

Don't say 'thanks, but no thanks' . Leave on good terms with them, say too them.

'With deep consideration, I regret to say that at this time I am not in a position to move forward with your company and I have decided to on this occasion not to take your offered position. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Best regards'

    Something along them lines.

    Congrats.

Contact the person you were dealing with and just tell them that you have been offered a longer contract for more money elsewhere. I doubt you have ruined any future chances of working for them. You've just had a better offer.

Lock down the other job first.!

I know its the obvious thing to do but, better to have a signed contract before you burn a bridge.

Agree, just point out the longer contract and say its one of your biggest decision points. most people will understand that in this economy.

hell they may offer you an even longer contract and a bit more money if they know you are a scarce comodity. nothing makes people want you like the thought that someone else wants you more.

That actually is peanuts in the world of the public sector where the low paid are earn 30k and under.

For everyone else of course, 30k is a fantastic salary and lucky to get it.
