Hi, I know this has probably been done to death here, but I failed NCT on emissions. Before the test I put the diathene in, drove for 25 mile, giving plenty of revs, and not going above 4th gear. The engine was well warm before the test.

Anyway here are the fail results:
    Low Idle 710 rpm. CO 1.07%, above .30 fail.----FAIL

    High Idle 3,090 rpm. Lambda 1.02 . PASS CO .56%, above .20% fail---FAIL

    HC 79ppm. PASS

So, basically by looking at those results, will I never be able to pass the emissions test without getting some major work done?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Is it a diesel or patrol? If it's a diesel, I have a few suggestions:)

Most likely a faulty catylithic converter (excuse crap spelling) Thats the magic thingy that converts co to co2 . Genuine ford wont be cheap but aftermarket could be tricky to fit because of the way they are fitted to the zetecs.. Could try a breakers but id get them to offer you a guarantee on it.

petrol. without getting a new cat is there no other way? I reckon all the fuel additives cant help, if the catalytic converter is completely gone.

A new lambda sensor would be cheaper than a cat - but I can't tell from those results that is your fault. A universal bosal one might be 50 euro or so.

Yea you're right about the fuel additives, useless would be putting it mildly! If it's a patrol, it could be something as simple as your coolant temp sensor or o2 sensor which is making the car run rich.

I would suggest getting it scanned to see if any fault codes come up. I would be surprised if a fault code didn't come up, given your emissions were high enough to fail the NCT.

Best of luck and I hope you get it sorted!
