Guess I'm in rant mode tonight after the ol' amalgamation talk coming up again but here's another problemo.

Google the meme chuck testa to explain the title if you don't get it.. it's worth it ;D

Ok so here's the deal... I'm well into my fourth year and tragically we were informed at the start of the year by course coordinator as he hands out timetables that... oh by the way.. there's no electives this year due to funding cut backs. Now don't get me wrong I don't blame him.. more then likely he was told that morning too.

Surely this fact was obvious to the college before the summer even started. I would of appreciated being made aware that ..actually that thing next year you do in the prospectus which is -subject to change- is downright blatent lies when it comes to electives. I understand when some electives just can't go ahead due to not enough numbers signing up and yeah yeah it's hard times blah blah but we weren't even given a choice... I mean the majority of the choices are coding based subjects.. can the cost between them really change all that much??? enough to not let just students choose which one they like they add this up and choose the most populour and put them on?

What's more is I feel like ITB kept this a dirty little secret right up until we were back because had we of been given the information at the start of the summer maybe some students would have gone to other college's where they can actually choose electives or at least had a chance to think about it. But no... if we had of been told then maybe they wouldn't have a course to run and our delicious moneys to take.

To be honest... it's just like previous years where were told what were doing.. but the fact that it's advertised as having electives makes it very disappointing when no choice is involved. It just leaves a bitter taste in the mouth...

I'd like to clarify that there's been absolutely no apology from itb and the only reason ever given is a bare -budget cuts- I'm sorry but were not kids anymore, break it down.. give us a decent break down of that reason. Explain why one subject costs more then the other when for all we can see.. they require the same gear... our laptops.

/rant.... ahhh that's better... I guess I should mention I still lurve my course ;D
Anyone else have no choice over their electives this year?

Sorry to hear Brendan. Our choice was cut from 4 to 3 last year. I'd say it's a staffing issue?

Lecturers time is broken down in to teaching/contact hours etc and I'd say that's the reason.

Hey Bren if you really and I mean really! want to study another module you could find it on the open university website and study it there. Dam expensive but if the module will help ya get a job then it might be worth a look.

I doubt you could replace a module in ITB with one from the OU but you never know, the OU degrees allow you to "cash in" your previous degrees to reduce the amount of modules you study in one of their degrees, maybe its reverseable.

You know none of that surprises me Brendan, I hate the way the college is run, everyone seems to pass the buck to someone else and it's the students who end up paying for it. Sure I'm still waiting to find out the result of an exam appeal in which the college admitted they made the mistake and it was there fault.

    They're a shhneaky bunch imo.
