West Kerry footballer Brendan O’Driscoll (28) lost his fight for life at Cork University Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after suffering a suspected brain haemorrhage while playing Gaelic football for Annascaul last Sunday.

O’Driscoll collapsed 10 minutes into the second half while playing in Annascaul’s West Kerry Championship game against Lispole.

He was treated at the scene before being brought to Kerry General Hospital and later to Cork University Hospital, where he passed away this afternoon.

    RIP

Just saw this now, his family made the tough decision to turn off his life support today. Absolute tragedy for all involved, according to onlookers, he got no bad belt or anything during the game - link to original story. http://www.irishexaminer.ie/ireland/health/gaa-player-collapses-during-game-171720.html

Just read this, my heart goes out to his poor, poor family! Only 28 and such an advocate for the game and I suppose all sports in general.

My you have a safe onward journey Brendan, and may your family find the strength in each other to cope at this truly awful time. All of my thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of them!

    RIP Brendan

The one consolation is that he died doing what he loved.
Deepest sympathy to family and friends.

Ive played with him and against him many times and he has huge connections to alot of the lads from my locality through soccer. this has shocked everybody in Kerry. i first played against him when i was 14 in a soccer match in Camp and then i marked him in a county league game against Annauscal a few weeks later. he always stood out every time we played them and he really was a talented player. he will be a huge loss, not just in sport but to all who knew him.

horrible tragedy for a great sporting family and an absolutely lovely fella.

    Rest In Peace Bawnie.

a very sad occassion for his family and all gaels in Kerry.

However why are incidents such as these happening - and not only to sports people? I know of 2-3 people who have died the same way over the past few years and there was nothing to link them together - age/sex/activities etc..... How many more have to before someone can tell us what to look for?

Mickey Harte went to visit the family this week. That for me puts the whole Kerry v Tyrone rivalry crap into perspective. A very nice gesture by a man that has gone through so much.
