PCLinuxOS Samba problem

I have a problem with Samba on PCLinuxOS. (just installed the latest version).

My Windows boxes can see and access the shares on PCLinuxOS the same as the shares on the Windows boxes without needing any changes at all.

The PCLinuxOS using the PCC can see the Windows boxes and access the shares when given the appropriate username/password. but the mount fails as the mount operation can't resolve the netbios name.

I put the IP address and netbios name of one of the boxes into the hosts file on PCLinuxOS and the share mounted perfectly.

I seem to remember a while back when I was experimenting with fedora I had to enable access by name rather than IP when using openvpn and remote desktop but I can't remember what I did.

Anyone know what to set on PCLinuxOS to enable access by nebios name rather than by IP address.

I don't want to have to maintain a hosts file as I use DHCP on the router.

Got it sorted just needed to add wins to the hosts: line in \etc\nsswitch.conf.

New it had to be something simple.

That was a little strange ....... just checked my /etc/nsswitch.conf file here, and although I do not use Samba (no Windows on the LAN) it has the 'wins' entry in the line ......
hosts: mdns4_minimal files nis dns wins mdns4

Is this entry similar to yours?

Makes me wonder why 'wins' is in mine and was not in yours .......

No mine was the same as yours except it didn't have wins. I'm using PCLinuxOS.

It could just be the implementation in the distro.

Sorry I didn't make it clear ..... I use PCLOS ..... this present install is relatively new (on different hardware) so maybe it was missing in previous releases.

    regards.
