All of the above comments are close to home for me, so here goes with a potted version of what happened to me. Ford Mondeo TDCi, filled up from almost dry to full at a cost of €82 (diesel price was below €1.40!) on Sunday night. The following evening I got that dreaded "dropped code" again where the glow plug light flashes, power is down, smoking, etc. (Had ALL 4 injectors replaced about 2 years ago). My mechanic recoded the injectors again yesterday, but it went again today. It is (according to him) definitely NOT good diesel, ie, it smells very odd, it looks odd, but he was in the middle of pumping out everything (he will keep a good sample) before trying again to recode again. What do I do about (a) the garage where I bought the diesel (b) getting compensation for the fuel and the repairs? I thought of ringing teh credit card company this evening to see about cancelling the purchase, but I just missed the closing time of 8 pm (will try again tomorrow). Apparently this sh*t goes on EVERYWHERE. I did nothing wrong and I'm very peeed off at having to pay for this! Thanks

    Moved to new thread.

I'd inform the garage where you bought it, get a sample and send it off to be tested, offer them the chance to get a sample to test, then go to them with your results.

    See what they say then.

+1 to this however I'd not be so nice.

I'd kick up a filthy fuss dude ! Shout loud enough and you'll be heard. Put a sign on a car and drive up and down advising of the bad diesel you got from there if they don't cough up there and then. Do it for long enough they'll change their tune (IF they refuse to pay for your repairs.)

Following on to this topic, Revenue have advised that they WILL be investigating this, and sampling the garage in question, and that they will also take a sample from my tank (retained for safe-keeping). Has anyone ever been fully compensated for such an event (repair costs, fuel etc), and should I also pay €200 or more for my own analysis of the fuel? Cheers

If the garage is not part of a big chain, I would not look for compensation .....

especially if the revenue is involved...

Got to small claims on this. My father in law did and got his money back. Mind you it was a struggle. The garage he claimed off was an independent.

This garage has a very well known brand sign outside it ....(but don't they all?)!

Should I get the sample tested at my own expense, in the hope that I am compensated for my losses?
