    Hello.

I have an interview with Dunnes next week for the position of a trainee HR mgr.

There was very little information provided about the job.

Does anybody know anything about this role?

All information and tips greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.:)

You can and will be moved around at short notice, usually Dublin area alone but can be further afield. About the job itself, you would be above the HR staff (there's always one or two) but below the HR manager. Compiling and printing rosters and payslips, checking to see who's till overs and unders and lates are worthy of attention/cautions/warnings, you'd also be doing and overseeing staff training- this includes inductions, till training, variation (stock loss) training, alcohol tobacco and paracetamol sales policies and health and safety policies. You won't do interviews or give warnings but you'd do a lot of the rest, also things like formulating bank holidays, holiday rosters and reviewing CV's.

Every manager ends up in Dunnes Cornelscourt at some stage, though HR maybe less inclined than a normal manager. You'd be unlikely to work in a mental store at least until you're fully trained but this is a good thing as they are much more difficult to work in than the quiet ones (the mental ones are Stephen's Green, Henry Street, Liffey Valley and Blanch). In some stores HR managers do lates on the floor once a week though this wouldn't be true of all stores. This isn't anything to worry about though- the staff are already assigned to sections etc. so you would just have to give voids on tills when called and see that there isn't someone hopelessly struggling with no help, so it is different to a floor manager.

I have worked in two stores, both very different, but not as management. Normal management hours are 10 hour shifts, but in general HR is a bit less.

Well I found out I got my first job in Dunnes within 4 hours. My second job in Dunnes took 2 days for a positive response. They tend to check references so they will do that before contacting you. I've heard they tend to post letters in the case of rejection.

IMO Best time to get into Dunnes is leading up to the Christmas season, when they take on christmas staff. Usually anywhere from September-November. I was on a Christmas contract last November- December. Then, Igot a temporary contract just two weeks ago. So you could be lucky now. There was a girl with no previous experience who was hired like me. Leave in a CV at customer service and see what happens.
