Just wondering if anyone who is already approved for a grant from Galway coco has received theirs yet. I was told by the council that some grants had been issued at the start of the week and the rest would be issued by this Friday the 28th, but when I went to fees office in college they still had a sign up saying Galway grants not in. I didn't have time to q and didn;t want to bother queing for half an hour just to be told they aren't in. Has anyone got theirs from Galway yet??

Not on the list there so they mustn't be in. It's about the only page on the college website that's actually kept up to date.

500 of them are in now. you have to check your ppsn on the grant page to see if your check is there or not

I don't know what it would be like in DCU, but there might be some sort of Student Assistant Fund that you could apply for that might help ease the burden.

Try asking in the DCU forum, they'll likely be able to help you :)

If you have a Bank of Ireland account, you could try getting a grant advance from them. I'm not sure do other banks do this, but BoI definitely do. You don't have to pay any interest on it afaik

3 times in total. First one's in October/November, second usually comes out around January/February, and the final one comes at the end of the year (start of May iirc)

I went into my local BOI as I have done it before at a previous college. They said they had no idea what it was. Gave me a form and i pointed out that grant advance for a box i had ticked on the form. They still said they had no idea and said they would sent it to my bank and i would get a call in a few days. It's been 3 weeks

When does the second instalment of the grant usually come in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

end of January or start of February usually. Depends on the county council though. Some are a bit more slow than others

As far as last year, the grants were only starting to come on stream in late march, at least for my friends.

    +1

Last year Galway coco issued the 2nd installment of the grant late January/early February.

Galway Co Co are tweeting on their web page...

GalwayStudents @cenright10 - As per previous tweets, the 2nd round of student grants cheques should be available in NUIG week commencing 23rd January 2012

What exactly does "should be" mean?

Has anyone had any luck with collecting the 2nd installment?.

I think cheques are due to be in this week.

I have a keen interest in the delivery of 2nd instalment maintenance cheques to the Grant's Office of NUIG. We have already been passed as grant recipients and have received our 1st instalment in late October 2011. Why do we have to wait until week 3 (or perhaps week 4) of Semester 2 to receive what has already been "means tested" and awarded to us on grounds of financial means. Galway Co Co twittered last week that they will be with NUIG on 23rd. It's Thursday night 26th and the Grant's Office @ NUIG don't even have them yet and wait for it... According to Staff there @ NUIG it will take them a day or two to do their "work on them" before they can be released for signature and collection. I spoke with staff at the Grants Office today and they said when they get them in they are in alphabetical order by first name. Last year they were in surname order and released by signing on a page allotted... Wonder really when will they be in?????????????

Goodness, considering it was tweeted over a week ago that they'd be here from the 23rd it's fairly dragging out now:(

i think the majority of them are in now but beware of the queue :p it gets really hectic in there. they had a separate line for galway co co the day i was in and it was going down the stairs by the time they brought out the list. i would recommend going in around 9:30 (no joke!)
