UPC sending misleading letters?

I'm just back from my Uncle's house. He got a letter from UPC advising him of a great offer whereby he could upgrade from analogue to digital and get a DVR (or is it PVR?) for €1 extra per month. The letter states though that he'll keep all his favourite channels and get new ones.

The problem is he had At The Races on the analogue package but it's sadly absent from the basic digital package.

He's quite rightly fed up. I was just wondering can anyone advise me on what his options are now? He paid €20 for the DVR thing...can he get his money back?

Don't you still keep the regular 17 or so analogue channels to watch on the TV along with the digital channels through the DVR?

  • I'm not sure! Where would I find the analogue channels?

Just plug your coax cable back into your TV from the DVR! The signals are still coming down the line.

The digibox also has coax out for passthrough, so you can connect a new coax cable from that to the TV. When you want to watch AtTheRaces, just enter the channel number on your TV. When you want to watch digital, set the TV to HDMI/SCART and watch through the digibox.

Yep we figured that out but it's too awkward pulling the TV out from the wall, removing the cable etc

Now this is an awesome suggestion! :) I'll get a bit of coaxial cable and try! Many thanks sir! My elderly uncle will be delighted.

You'll get the correct connection lead in Tesco cheapo. No need to go shelling out. Make sure it has a male and female end.

Or if you have an old VCR, you can use the same cable you used to hook it up to your tv, if you no longer use the vcr
