Drumcondra to IFSC - Best Method?

Got a house on the Clonliffe Rd. One of my housemates will be working in Spencer Dock and we're trying to figure out the best [and quickest] route to work for him.

    So far we've;

[a] Walk to Drumcondra Station, train to Connolly [not sure if this is possible as IE won't give me an online price for it?] and then walk/luas to Spencer Dock.

Any number of buses [#27 etc] from Anneseley Bridge to Connolly and then Luas to Spencer Dock.

Should be about 30-40mins I reckon?

Bus/Luas 30 Day Combo is €88. don't know how much the rail would cost.

    Any improvements/suggestions?

Cycle or walk deffinitly. It'd be far quicker then public transport on that route.

I cycle through Drumcondra every day also going to Spencer dock and it takes less than 5 minutes. It'd be no more then 20/25 minute walk

You're wasting your time getting the train. You'll have a wait of between 6 and 15 minutes per train and then spend most of the time stuck just outside Connolly waiting for another train to clear your path.

You'd cycle it in a little over 5 minutes no bother.

If your mate can't/won't cycle, I'd go option B. But it really depends which end of Clonliffe you're at. But whichever end, multiple buses pass by. I wouldn't use the train for this journey.

    Cheers for the replies guys.

Think his work will give up to €1000 for a bike/bike accessories so that could be the runner.

I suppose the Bus/Luas combo if it was raining wouldn't be a disaster - 88 quid a month seems reasonable [even if its not non-consecutive].

    Are you joking?
€88 per months seems incredibly excessive to me for the short difference of Drumcondra (just outside the city) to the IFSC (just inside the city)

Well the €88 covers the entire city - not just that trip.

Far better to walk/cycle and use the train where necessary - get a smartcard.

Or walk/cycle and get bus/Luas per other posts.

Luas Smart Card (fare is 1.45 from Busaras to Spencer Dock) and pay cash fares on Dublin Bus (presume €1.65?). That'd be €6.20 per round trip; done twice a week and that's €25-30/month. Less if you get the Luas from George's Dock (1.25) or not at all...

If you don't want to deal with cash, get a Travel 90 Dublin Bus card as well and just absorb the slight extra in fare for the bus for sake of convenience. It'll negate itself soon enough for all the times you only have a €2 coin for the bus fare and don't bother to cash in on the refund receipts.

I'm not sure if "give" is the correct word - typically it is by means of salary sacrifice, but for €500 of lost income, you can have a €1,000 of bike and equipment. http://www.revenue.ie/en/business/paye/guide/employers-guide-paye-definition.html#section6.6

If the employer supplies monthly or annual tickets under the Taxsaver scheme, they can also be availed of. www.taxsaver.ie
