Does anybody know where I can get one of those sensor lights that I can place over the water tank in my attic to stop it freezing during a cold spell?
It's a light with a big red bulb and a thermostat attached to it. You can set the thermostat so that for example if the temp drops below -2 the light will come on and emit heat so as to prevent the tank from freezing.

    Thanks

any decent electrical wholesalers should stock them.
the bulb/bulb holder/stat and cable required should be around €35 for the lot
-2 is to low the damage will already be done, set stat for +2

Thanks for that. I have topped up the insulation in my attic recently and it is now much colder up there (Under the tank is insulation free though).

Think the Fegime group of wholesalers are doing a bulb-holder, frost stat and 250w bulb for €19.50 plus VAT, cable etc. obviously extra, still cheap though.

I bought all my frost protection recently from Monaghan Electrical. I am a landlord and priced around as a I need quite a number and found them to be the cheapest. Sean who works there emailed me a a catalogue with all their protection equipment.

Has anyone actually done an independent test of these anti freeze electrical pipe cable kits???

Because all of a sudden, every one is making them and they are popping up for sale everywhere nowadays.

For all anyone knows,it might just be an expensive gimmick that just wastes electricity.

Some say wrap it around the pipe, others say that you have to cut the water pipe and thread the cable down the water pipe......and so on.

Have these frost cables actually been tested yet??

PS-I dont need 1,but Im just curious to see if its a gimmick

These cables have been used in countries such as Holland, Sweden, Germany Canada etc for many years. Stick to the instructions. Cable can't be used inside water pipes unless it is certified. Most cables on the market are for external use parallell or spiral along the pipes.
