Just got a price from a peugeot dealer that to get a key cut for a 1999 Peugeot 206 would be in the region of 140euro as it has to be programmed to the car etc. I would prefer just to get a key cut normally for a few euro but have been told that it wouldnt start the car. Is their a cheaper option than the 140 euro quoted. Any advice would be great.

Brown Brothers in Dun Laoghaire can cut a new one, move the transponder from one fob to the other, €40 it cost last time. Saved me over €200.

There are many locksmiths around look for the shops with trays of keys. i think you can get one cut no problem. sometimes though i think they need some gadget in the key but for an old 1999 i think you wouldn't need this gadget atall. you can just ask the locksmith for the key without the gadget should only be a few euro.

what gadget are you on about? if the car has an imobilizer you will need to get a key programed to it or remove the chip from an old/broken key..
are you talking about a remote locking fob??

    OP
why do you need a key cut?
do you just need it as a spare?
is your old key worn/broken and just want to replace it?

    Only have the one key.

Lost it the last day and took us a day to find it, so need a spare in case happens again. Would any old peugeot key with an immobilizer do or is each unique to each car

Maybe give Colleran locksmiths a ring and ask them if the sell blank
keys or key blades for your 206..?
    http://www.goldenpages.ie/colleran-s-locksmiths-galway-city/1/

The older peugeot/Citroen keys the can be reprogrammed but the newer keys from 2002 onwards can only be programmed once.

You could order one of these AKK41 blank keys from http://hickleys.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php for £20.09 + vat and get collerans to cut it from your other key..If your stuck for programming it pm me you vin number and i can get your transponder code to program it for you..:)

The last option would be to get a set if secondhand keys + ignition barrel+door locks/boot lock from a breakers yard and reprogram them to your car..you may even pick up a remote fob.

if you can find the locksmiths ask him for the key without the gadget and you'll be fine.

what the hell is this gadget you are talking about???
if the op wants the key to start the car they are going to have to get the key programed to their imobilizer..

op you might pick up a key on ebay also
