Sorry for the awful title :o

Basically, I ordered a new SSD and RAM for my 2008 unibody macbook (5.1). Changed the RAM no bother, with the help of a friend. However, stupidly i have managed to wreck the screwhead that holds down the chassis that holds the HD in the laptop. Is there anyway around this? :(

That happens a lot to people, just google "stripped macbook screw".

If you don't move your MacBook around much then you don't even need the bracket the HDD will just rest in place and work as normal, just make sure you have switched the four screws/grommets from the old HDD to the new one so that it sits in place. But if you do move your MacBook around a lot then it will be rattling around in there all the time which is not good for a HDD.

You could call into CompuB just off Patricks Street and ask them if they are able to remove the damaged screw and replace it. You could easily do this yourself but they probably already have everything needed cause they do repairs there.

Got it sorted with a crowd in Carrigaline. It's like a new computer. I open apps and I genuinely get a fright when they open so quickly!
