Howdy, did a search on the forum and there is nothing really answering my question.

Girlfriends phone needs to go in for repair so need to put on the stock HTC Desire unbranded ROM.

I went onto stock-roms.com and followed the instructions and the programme it downloaded just keeps crashing to desktop with a failed message.

So in short, how can I get a stock HTC Desire rom on my phone so I can send this phone off for repair

    Under Baseband Version it has

    32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27

I've tried using HTC Sync but thats rubbish and wont recognise the phone in the pc, never did.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Try a different PC, just install HTC sync and un-install again, this should leave the drivers intact.

    Is it Win7 64 bit?

Having a small nightmare trying to restore phone back to Stock rom.

Was directed to download a RUU file, which is basically an original stock ROM.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048&page=5

I'm using the one from there

The instructions are simply download the file, and runthe exe.

It will then automate the process and revert back to my stock rom when I first bought the phone.

However the programme just keeps crashing out and leaving the phone stuck on the hTC screen for me to take the battery out, very annoying. Its not even the normal HTC scree, it is some black one I've never seen before

Going to try one or two more things, but if anyone has succesfully reverted a HTC Desire back to Stock Firmware please give me a shout, need this done so I can get it back to repair

I had that on two occasions, once when the ruu was trying to update to an older radio I believe and once when I didn't have the gold card inserted. My desire was o2 branded but unlocked and I debranded using the gold card.

    That any use?

I have done it twice, seems easier using XP than on 7.

I didn't require a gold card ^^ at any point though, which may be the issue.

    My phone came unbranded.

I hear this talk of the Goldcard and to be 100% sure I dont know if I did or not, I heard the gold card is used if the phone has security on, which mine didn't afaik.

I'm pretty sure I never had to make a goldcard to root in the first place, might it be I need to make one to get it back to stock?

The easiest solution would be getting the stock rom in zip format and then going through recovery, I can do that no problem, jsut caant find the file in zip format anywhere, its all these .exe files which arnt working

Hey guys! I'm having the same problem, I have a HTCdesire from three, and it looks like it will need to go back for repairs. I've rooted it, do I need to unroot it before sending it back to three?

Send it to HTC, not Three, and yes, it would be wise to return it to stock first, they could reject a warranty claim based on the software being modified.

FYI HTC supposedly aren't too pushed on what ROM you're running if your returning it for a hardware fault like dodgy buttons or screen so you shouldn't bother putting it back to stock if that's the reason for repair.

Cheers, my problem is that the screen freezes about once a day requiring me to pull the battery to reboot (it's happened on different roms so I reckon it's a hardware issue). Should I be OK sending it back rooted?

You might be, but for the few minutes it takes, I wouldn't risk it.

Well got myself a .zip copy of the RUU file, tried to load from bootloader and then "bad" came up, nothing happening.

So at the moment pretty lost as to where to go, supposidly the easiest thing going, and this is simply not happening for me, what so ever.

Have you got Clockwork Recovery installed on it?

how old is the phone? if it's an older one with an amoled screen, check my post on this page from over a year ago. i've linked a zip file that worked perfectly for me back then

if you have one of the newer slcd screens, i'm wasting your time, disregard this post

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have a sticky menu button / home button area on my Wildfire S, I was thinking of sending it back to HTC for repair, I have messed around on custom roms and the like and gotten the phone S-offed....

Im just wondering if I put it back to stock, send it in for repair, would it come back with S-On?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Well I bought it the week it was released with Carphone Warehouse unbranded,

Yes I have clockwork mod installed

that would be amoled so, give it a bash (hopefully it's not the zip you've already tried)

First things first I would try uninstalling Sync on your machine & download the latest one before running the RUU....

Are you running the RUU as admin? Make sure to!

Give Teals solution a try first and if thats a no-go and you can get into clockwork maybe try Wipe factory, Wipe cache, and Wipe dalvik, but thats serious messing!

The last resort if it wont go back to stock, the RUU "should" run if the phone can boot into the custom rom your using, and from there run the RUU, it should start even on the custom rom homescreen!

I had a similar wee panic with my own last night but all it was because the battery to low to flash, has her phone got a full battery or not far off?

Still had no joy with this.

Tried all I can think off

Most recently tried formatting SD card and boot with zip on SD card in root folder. No joy.

The phone keeps saying "bad" when referring to the zip file. I got the stock rom from the XDa forum which links to a website called stock-rom or something.

Getting furious because I dont want to miss out on the warranty repair for my hTC Desire.

Anyone got ayn other suggestions? I seem to be the only one experiencing this much hassle with custom roms and rooting in general.

So I'm still trying to do this

Warranty is probably gone at this stage, or close to expiry

Just cannot get it back to stock ROM : /

Really want to get this fixed for the misses. I'm going to re run through this thread and try everything again ,

Has anything else come out in the last five months thats guaranteed/easy to make it work

Hey! Id the same problem, was tearing my hair out and bricking the phone like nobody's business lol. Anyway, what I did was, as has been said, get the RUU file and run the zip. Now, as I'm on 3 and couldn't find the specific RUU, I tried the generic ones, but they didn't work either. In the end, my problem was related to the hboot version (I think!). So when you start the phone in recovery, it should let you know the version you're running. So a quick Google with that info should get you the right RUU zip to run.

I hope that helps, I know I was fit to strangle someone when I'd the problem. Also, fwiw, a clean instal of the stock rom, followed by a more careful rooting removed all freezing problems the phone had.

My phone is having a hardware issue, cannot hear anything through the earpiece : /

So it needs to go for repair and they wont take it with custom rom. But tbh it was causing more problems then it was worth so I want to just get it back to normal.

Seriously, register over on XDA and post in the handsets forum, no offence to boardsies but the rom community over there are HUGE and will sort you out with a guide to getting it back stock much faster.

I'd go with this. Xda's a whole forum dedicated to this sort of issue. They'll have you sorted in no time! Best of luck!

I tried them last time round and nothing seemed to sort it, some people said they'd take it up and investigate because it was concerning, but never got back

    Might try them again

    THanks all
