Hi lads a mate of mine has a problem with his playststion...When he tries to turn it on it takes half an hour, sometimes it turns on for 1-2 seconds and then switches off again. Is this caused by a loose connection or could it be something as simple as a blocked/dusty fan?

Its from Ylod (Yellow Light of Death), showing a blinking red light and wont come on, caused by the Ps3 overheating and cracks appear in the chipset/motherboard. It can be fixed DIY style, I've done this myself but the results are hit and miss as in it can break again within an hour or a month! , also some repairers offer BGA reballing which as far as a know is the only known way of fixing this indefinably.

My two cents, its basically fooked, so just sell for parts and put it towards a new one.

By the way....LOVE your username and location!!

Yep you hit the nail on the head the light was blinking for the past 3 months I was told today. I told him tonight that he'd get a new one for €250-300 so he might as well buy new instead of trying to fix the one he has. Thanks for your help man

    DING DING!!
