Is it worth to take a loan for new car?

Hi, if any thread like this already exist, please close and send me link.

After paying ridiculous money over last three months for car repairs  I am wondering if it wouldnt be better to take loan for new car and pay like 150 a month for few years.
My question is - how long are brand new cars good? I mean how long before they start to brake as well and how long is usually warranty and free service?

From your experience- is it worth it?

(or is it better to buy like a 2-3 year old, because they are much cheaper just because not brand new?)

A really, really shitty one. A G-Wiz maybe? You're right though, the OP won't get an new car for €150 a month. My calcs suggest that a brand new base spec Fiesta would end up costing €500 per month inclusive of everything except depreciation.

Ok, I dont know how much, but could somebody answer this please? ;)

    "Your New Opel Warranty

Opel guarantees that your new car will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 24 months (following delivery or the first registration, whichever occurs first).
This warranty guarantees repairing and substituting parts for your new car at no charge within these time limits by an Opel dealer or an Opel Authorised Service Operation. Any replaced parts will become the property of Opel."

:o What - only 24 months? I can answer myself -its not worth it!

What's your budget OP? About 4-5K?
Look for good specimens of cars known to last, like Toyota etc, in your price range.
Buying a brand new car is madness imo with the depreciation.

Look at cars with engine that are easy to maintain, for instance has a timing chain instead of a belt.

OP, I think you hit the nail on the head with your mention of 2-3 years old, that is probably the 'sweet spot' where you get a good whack off the new price because someone else has taken the big hit on depreciation and the car should be very reliable, provided it has a 100% service record which you'd expect from a new(ish) car.

Relative to inflation and what you'd be getting in a deposit account, a car loan is fairly expensive money these days so you'd be as well off to save as much as you can before venturing into the market and if you do borrow money to buy a recent car, remember to factor into the numbers that you'll need to buy fully comp. insurance to cover yourself in case you skid on ice or do something nasty to the car that can't be claimed from a 3rd party.

If I wait for a while and sell old car I can have this 4-5K, but I just don't know how it is, because car I have at the moment is my first one and I am affraid I will spend this 5K and will keep paying for repairs anyway..

Depends what the problem(s) were... and if the car is fixed now, why would you bother changing car? Like, you just spent a load of money fixing the car...for someone else?

I am not going to sell it now, but after next nct which will be in over year time. :)

I just ask, becasue I am wondering if this is normal or I was just extremely unlucky with my first buy. :(

Really depends - there's parts in a car that will wear down (wear&tear) with use, some parts of the suspension, clutch, gearbox, etc etc. But once you replace them, they should last for another number of years of usage. And it's all about how they were treated during their life in the car. Usually cars used for learning to drive in can have clutch issues, as L drivers with bad clutch control can cause excessive wear when learning.

Obviously usual stuff like tyres, oil, filters, all have to be done regularly, but if you're replacing gearboxes every other week then somethings wrong.

If you treat a car right, and service it regularly then it'll stand to you. If you do the common Irish thing of "drive it til it breaks, then whinge its cost so much to fix" when the problem could have been avoided in the first place... you only have yourself to blame

Oh, and FYI - €1000 would buy 4 tyres and some oil + filter for my car

"drive it til it breaks, then whinge its cost so much to fix"

I bought my car from some dodgy character (never again) and it was obviously neglected (even some green started growing on the back window):D
-not funny thought, dont know why I was so stupid, I just couldnt wait!
Oh and I was learning to drive on it, so I maybe killed it a little. :o
