Hop Tea with Beer Kit

    Thinking of brewing a batch with a Hop Tea and a Beer kit.
    I have a Muntons Gold IPA, have done dry hopping before but want to see if a Hop Tea will make much of a difference to the aroma and flavour.


    Not sure if this can be done, so grateful for any ideas, and tips for making a hop tea.

    Got some progress hops from homebrew.ie, and some muslin bags, put a good handful of hop leaves in the muslin bag and left em to boil/simmer for 20mins in 2 litres of water in the stock pot..

    Then when I had added the intermediate mix/light malt extract to the fermenter I added the 2 litres of hop tea and mixed her up.... then topped up to 25 litre mark.

    I know of a few people who have done this and they always maintain it improves the aroma of the stout...

    I myself only bottled this batch last night so haven't tasted the final product but had a swig of the primary last night and I must admit I definitely got a hint of the oatmeal style taste i was aiming for, so I reckon its worked for me

    Bear in mind with a hop tea the longer you boil the hops the less aroma/flavour they contribute, and instead contribute more bitterness.

    If you want flavour or aroma my advice would be don't boil for more than 5 minutes. In fact, if you want to maximise the flavour or aroma I would be recommending just steeping in hot water, and not actually boiling at all.

    yip, i boiled for like 7 mins and simmered for 13, made the whole process around 20 mins
