Capital gains tax question

Any help on this appreciated as I have trawled through the revenue website and cant find answer. After gifting a house to their son in Dec 2010 a family member paid CGT tax in Jan 2011. Can losses on the sale of shares during 2011 now be offset against that?
    Thanks in advance.

Not sure if I understand correctly, but it seems that it occurred in different tax periods.

This is the second property thread you have posted I have closed- take a 7 day ban to go with it.
