I'm over in the southwest of France at the moment doing couple of weeks work.

Driving around the place we have seen countless roe and one boar just happily grazing the side of the road.

Every evening after work me and my mate pick a different valley to walk up and spot.

First evening I watched a buck graze for about 15 mins merely 25 yds from me, and was joined by a doe for few mins too. He had a fantastic big head on him. In the same valley last year I had a group of boar run across bout 80 yds in front of me, you can see everywhere they have been rooting in the ground.

Only one evening we didn't see anything, this evening we stalked in on a group of roe that rose to 7 at one stage. They were happily grazing away on the valley floor which is only about 50 yds at its widest, on the way back, downwind of us we startled 4 boar who were rooting away in the half-dark.

Unfortunately I was flying over and didnt want the hassle of airport security bringing a gun, plus the tickets were paid for by the client. Think I'm back over in february and the local plumber who is an avid hunter has promised me some sport, I'll def be armed this time :D

aer Lingus would bring them, but not ammo so would have to source some locally. And seeing as I wasnty paying for the flight would've had to book i in as luggage myself so didnt bother.

I'm afraid I forgot both my binos and my camera this time, tried take pic with phone but with flash turned off it just comes out black at half-light.

There is a small river which runs through the village, when I was over last March there were fellas fishing everywhere on it, dunno if its any good though.

Just be careful what calibre you are looking to take to France, military derived cals such as 308 are not permitted in civilian hands but you are right, I ve been to rural France quite alot and like yourself came across alot of game.

I know as much, that is the reason the .307 semi-rimmed was developed. in all details it is a .308 but with a semi-rim on it, so if you have a .308 just needs a bit of bolt work to fire .307

have had the 6.5 over in France before, great these european countires that accept the EFP on its own merit !!!

As bad as Ireland is, I will never understand the need to "outlaw" so called military calibers. They were enveloped by the military for good reason.
