This morning got into into my 2001 focus, the fan only works now at the highest setting, regardless of heat or direction... There had been an occasional squeeky noise when the fan was running but other than that was working fine up to last night...

    Any ideas on cause/solution?

Resistor pack is faulty. It's located behind the dash on passenger's side. Replacements cost about €15 from ford. They're held in with one single screw and an electrical plug attached to them.

The reason they burn out is usually down to a choked pollen filter, restricting cooling air flow.

You'll find the pollen filter outside the car, under the plastic trim beneath the passenger's side windscreen wiper. Replace this too so that the new resistor don't go the same way.

Nice one... I'm due a service in next 2 weeks or so, glad there could be an easy fix...
