Seperation/Mediation

A friend of mine is separating from her husband and is having a mediation meeting this week, she doesn`t know much about what to expect so I`m looking for info on her behalf. My sis went through this a few years ago but I was out of the country so didn`t really see firsthand how it proceeds, plus my sis had no kids to complicate all this...
    What happens at these meetings?
Is it everything gets put into a pot and devided 50/50?
What info has she to bring with her?
Would the marital/family home have to be sold to "pay off" whoever moves out?
What would she expect to get solved?
She has a lot of debt and is on a small income, would she get any maintenance or any other help to pay bills etc?
There are teenage kids also if that makes any difference?

Most probably whoever will be the guardian with custody of the children will continue to live in the family home and the one who moves out will have to continue to pay a share of the mortgage and child support for the kids and somehow afford somewhere to live
