Do Social Welfare post you things much?

I'm in the process of applying as a casual worker. The problem is, I'm also in transit between two houses. I've listed my current address on the form, but I'll shortly be moving to the new address (it's only a couple of streets over so I don't need to change anything, even my post office). I won't be able to really return to my old house to collect any post, so I'm wondering if SW are likely to send me anything in the post? Post forwarding costs €55 so I'd like to avoid that if possible. I'll obviously update my address as soon as I have proof of the new place.

Your white Welfare card will get posted to your address if you order one.

They will be posting you the yellow X and O dockets.and a cheque for any monies due when you are on casual unemployment.

When you move address you are best to tell them straight away, just in case any cheques or dockets get issued to you. You could also be sent forms to have completed and if these are not back in time your claim can be closed.
When you move, you don't have to have proof of address straight away. Just inform them, let them know the new address so they can update your file, and they will give you a week or so to get proof into them. Just keep them informed of your waiting for proof and everything will be ok.

Okay, so I haven't actually written an address on the form yet. I've proof of address at the old place, but will be moving in a couple of days. Would my contract for the new place do as proof, do you think? It'll be a while before I have any bills, obviously. How much will it hold things up if I don't have acceptable proof?

And also (bad timing all over the place!), my passport is currently being renewed. Will my driver's licence + the receipt for Passport Express be enough as ID?

When are you making your claim?
Maybe leave the address bit blank, if the claim appointment is before moving, and ask at the office when you attend which they want you to put down.
Your contract/lease is sufficient as proof of address. You shouldn't need utility bills with this so that should not hold things up.
You can bring proof of your address for your current address also just in case.

Your driving licence should also be sufficient by itself - but just in case have you anything else to back this up? Maybe a work ID or birth cert? Do you have a social services card already?

Thanks a million, cee_jay! Making my claim tomorrow, and the lease has already begun on the new place, so I just have to try and get a copy of the contract tomorrow morning.

I've oodles of other cards, but no idea where my social services card is. I have a Garda ID, and a very-slightly-outdated student card. Fingers crossed that it will be enough!

My mind is much more at ease now, thanks :)

If you can't get a copy of the lease, don't worry - they will give you a chance to provide proof of address.
Don't worry too much about the social services card - they can order you one. And Garda ID with your driving licence would be perfect.
    Best of luck with it!

Just for information.... primary source of ID for sw claims is an up to date passport or long version of birth certificate with driving licence.
