    Thanks.

I enjoyed Richard Bauckham's "The Theology of the Book of Revelation" (published in 1993 by Cambridge University Press). It takes a thematic approach and demonstrates how the thought of the author is rooted in the Jewish scriptures.

Anne Catherine Emmerich touched on it in some detail in her " Life of Christ"

Uh, you realize the utter racism of her "visions"?

    Not to mention other things....

I value Hendriksen's, More Than Conquerors

I have a copy, but not yet read, of the highly commended Behold, He Cometh by Herman Hoeksema

Well I don't, apart from Mell turning her writings into TPOTC I haven't heard much about her. Any links which would elaborate?

There is other bizzare stuff in her writings, though to be fair we cant be 100 per cent sure how much her writings actually are hers and not someone else using her name, but I think this will suffice for the moment.

I don't think the postings on anti-Catholic schismatic websites count as evidence. They may count as propoganda though...

The first one is Conservative RC as opposed to Traditional, infact its anti-Traditional or what you would call schismatic...

No, they are both Lefebvreian and as such are probably not in good standing with the Holy See, probably disobedient to the Pope and hence anything they write is suspect.

If they are not in communion with the Pope, they are not Catholic.

If they are not in communion with the Pope, they are not Roman Catholic.
    Fixed that for ya. ;)

I was only asking because I had always heard of her as a bit odd even in RC circles. Hadn't heard anything about racism, the other stuff isn't that uncommon. Didn't one saint or other claim Jesus foreskin as her wedding ring?
The second link has a bit of back n forth, enough to give me a picture of the 'sides' anyway.
    Thanks for the links.

In fairness the first link is to a website of a "supporter" of Lefebvre but states he himself is in communion with Rome, which is good.

Is suspect far too many are reading far too much into the recordings of Clemens Brentano who was unfamiliar with Emmerichs dialect and may well have introduced his own embelishments. As PatricaMcKay said after calling Emmerich a racist we cannot be sure if she actually said what he said she said so it is unfair to brand her a racist without incontrovertible evidence.

Not to mention the fact that she is Blessed, and we are minded not to judge.

Yes, I like Hendriksen's 'More Than Conquerors'. His New Testament Commentary series, published by Banner of truth, also includes some excellent volumes.

Tom Wright has completed his series of New Testament translations and commentaries with Revelation for Everyone (SPCK, 2011), which was published a few weeks ago. This provides an accessible introduction to the Book of Revelation, written from an Evangelical Anglican perspective.

We disagree on Evolution, Pentecostalism, Women pastors. Maybe Head-covering, and ...?

But we are one in Christ, and will soon know the truth about all things. :)

Sweet, just bought that book! Looks nice and slim and easy to absorb...have always been fascinated by Revelation, even years back before I believed - was always amazed by the imagery and the language - especially as it was so different from 'love one another', etc!

    Should be interesting.
