    Hi Guys,

Looking to buy a radio to programme so I can listen to Airplanes on while spotting them up in Cork airport or even from a distance. My uncle has one that he picked up from Maplin but again im not too sure.

Not looking for anything spectacular as I dont have a load of money.

    All help appreciated.

    Cheers

Hey all, just a quick question while i see this thread.I have a Maycom AR-108 Scanner.I useually use it up around Knock airport and its fine,i can even get Shannon perfect on it with the height up there. What sort of scanner would you recommend to hear Knock/Shannon from say Castlebar. The reason i ask is that Knock isnt exactly busy at times! or is it purely the height i need?

Hi just to let you know i got a handheld scanner bearcat on Done Deal a few weeks ago , prices are low for these now and going to get lower as certain state and local authority users have gone or are going digital .
so there not much to listen to anymore and most of these scanner guys are getting rid of em.

Has anyone any experience of the Bearcat UBC30XLT? Looking for a decent quality airband scanner.

Hello there OB. The radio you have is fine. Look for instructions on making a j-pole antenna on the web. I made one with a few bits of copper, some coax cable etc, cost me about 20eur. I have it on a gable of a shed beside the house, its very good. On a clear day I can pick up aircraft on approach to Cork with an entry level Uniden Bearcat Scanner. I'm in Tubbercurry area and I don't live in a particularly high location. PM me if you need any more info.
