Was looking at each of these to pick up in the next few weeks maybe, found a nice example of each..

Which would you prefer which are more prone to problems etc?

the a4 being only 115bhp or thereabouts.

No doubt many will say the bmw but are they common to problems?

    thanks lads

had one of these A4 for nearly 3 years and was a brilliant car that never let me down once, mine was 110bhp i think, id say probably more reliable than the bmw 320

We had a 97 one of those A4s and it was a great car. However it would be the 320d hands down for me. (I have an E46 320d myself)

The E46 is a much more modern car and a far better drive.

The B5 A4 came out in 1995 remember.

Reliability wise I'd say there would not be much in it.

Yeah the 320d is more modern alright..
what year is your one is it the facelift model or previous?

Whats the most common problems on a 320d to look out for?

Mine is a Nov 04 but my uncle has a 2001 pre facelift.

Everyone will tell you turbos are weak but all you need to do is change the filter on them every 30k miles or so.

Other than that they don't have any major problems, the pre facelift ones don't have any swirl flaps so no worries there :)

    No, the crankcase breather/filter.
